As the hour appointed for their meeting drew nigh, Mr. Boie’s friend reached the place where they were to start for home, from, but not finding his companion and thinking he had left for the house, he also started home.
About ten o’clock Mrs. Boie grew very uneasy as to the whereabouts of her son, and finding that a hound which accompanied both men to the woods, had returned without his master, a company was organized and a diligent search instituted until sometime after midnight, not finding the looked-for they all repaired to the house, partook of some refreshments in the way of a lunch, and once more set out in quest of the unfortunate, who was found a lifeless corpse about five o’clock Monday morning.
It appears, which he attempted to cross a fence, his gun was discharged and its contents passed through his heart killing him instantly. The corpse was found with one foot between a couple of rails of the fence.
The deceased was about twenty-three years of age, a man of exemplary habits, loved and respected by all his associates, but most by the family of which he was a member.
Like an autumn leaf he dropped to the earth, passed from this pleasant world to enjoy the richness of a long where all noble hearts find peace and happiness when their work of life is done. His dear associates many walk down this valley of silence, but will not be greeted by the sound of his footsteps, nor the voice of his life saving in their imagination.
This evening as the shades of night were falling, his body was laid to rest in our village cemetery, placed low under the clay of earth just as a bright and glorious day sunk to rest in the farm west. His brother of Denver, and sisters of Milwaukee, reached here in time to see his lifeless corpse.
Peace be to his remains, and may his future paths be strewn with flowers for such a way he deserved to find before him in his home beyond the sun.
