RAYMOND E BOICE
RAYMOND E. BOICE, physician and surgeon at Middleport, Ohio, is a descendant of Joseph DuBois, a Frenchman who settled in New Jersey in a very early day. His grandmother, Caroline (Kent) Boice, was a native of England and a descendant of the Duke of Kent.
Doctor Boice was born May 14, 1904, at Rutland, Meigs County, son of Lester and Olivia (Price) Boice. His mother was a native of Rutland and his father, a grocery merchant at Middleport, was a native of Kyger, Gallia County. The grandfather Marcellus Boice enlisted for service at the age of thirteen and served throughout the Civil War and became an expert marksman. After the war he returned to his home, and at the age of eighty-eight still is active in the management of his farm.
With this excellent family background, Raymond E. Boice took full advantage of the opportunities offered by the local schools, and has the distinction of having the highest grades ever made in the Pomeroy high school, from which he graduated with the class of 1922. In 1926 he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University, and his degree Doctor of Medicine with the class of 1928. He then served as intern at Harper Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, and in 1929 began practice at Pomeroy, but shortly afterward removed to Middleport, where he has since established a successful practice.
Doctor Boice is a member of the American, Ohio State and Meigs County Medical associations, and has been placed on the honor roll of the Ohio State association. He is a Mason, Knight Templar and Knight of Pythias, a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and a lodge member of Alpha Mu Pi Omega, now merged with Nu Sigma Nu medical fraternity. He is independent in politics, ans is a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. For recreation he enjoys golf and fishing.
October 30, 1926, Doctor Boice married Elnora Stark, daughter of James R. and Mila (Disbro) Stark. Her father, who was born in Canada, operated a tailoring business for many years at Pomeroy, Ohio, and died in July, 1933. Her mother, a native of Delaware County, Ohio, survived her husband only a few months, passing away September, 1933.
