Helen Bohn Anderson was born on February 20, 1906, in Clayton Township, the daughter of Simon and Josephine (Wiste) Bohn. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith in the old Little Cedar Church and was confirmed in Marshall Lutheran Church. Helen attended country school until the consolidation in Elkton where she graduated from high school in 1923 and then completed a business course at Mankato Commercial College in 1925.
On June 1, 1929, she was married to Oscar T. Anderson in Adams by Rev. Alfred Breivik. They had three children, Joyce (Mrs. Bernard) Halver of Adams; Owen of Lewisburg, Pa. and Janice Robinson of Pacific Palisades, Ca. She has fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ted and her husband, O.T., who died in 1978. Helen Anderson died at the age of 82, at the Adams Health Care Center where she had been a resident since May 1987.
Helen was active in community, church, business, politics and family. She worked at the Farmers State Bank of Adams before her marriage and during World War II. She was also actively involved in the operation of Anderson Hardware along with O.T. and Ed until retirement in 1965.
She was a lifelong member of Marshall and Little Cedar Lutheran Churches and was active in all of its affairs including WELCA, Altar Guild and many years of organizing and maintaining cemetery records.
Her community participation included serving as a local chairman of the Heart Fund Drive, the Mower County Nursing Auxiliary, Election Clerk and the Adams Centennial Celebration. She also enjoyed expressing her political concerns to local, state and national elected officials.
The funeral service was conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 10, 1988 at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams with Pastor Allen Gunderson officiating. The organist was Mrs. Gerald Meier and June Wolf was the soloist. Interment was in Little Cedar Cemetery.
Casket bearers were James and Sheldon Bohn, Terry, David and James Halver and John Rodrigue.
Some of the great joys of her life were active involvement in her family, home, friends and traveling.
