James E. Bohannon of Carrollton, a former state legislator, died of cancer Saturday at Emory University Hospital. He was 70.
Mr. Bohannon had been diagnosed with cancer in 1977, according to a family member.
The funeral was Monday at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Carrollton with burial at Carroll Memory Gardens.
Mr. Bohannon, a former county ordinary and a real estate broker, represented District 20 in the state House of Representatives from 1969 to 1975.
He was Carroll County ordinary, or probate judge, from 1957 to 1968.
James Elmer Bohannon was born Jan. 17, 1917, in Carroll County. He was the youngest of nine children of John D. Bohannon, a farmer, and Mrs. Carrie Hughs Bohannon.
He was a graduate of West Georgia College and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lillian Thompson Bohannon; two sons, Jimmy C. Bohannon of Carrollton and David A. Bohannon of Lawrenceville; a daughter, Mrs. Jane Carter of Douglasville; a sister, Miss Maude Bohannon of Carrollton; and six grandchildren.
