SHREVEPORT, LA- Adelaide Boggs Creamer, long-time community volunteer, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, March 30, 2007 after a long battle with Parkinson's and dementia.

She was born August 19, 1920 in Austin, Texas, the only child of Charles E. Boggs and Flora Bergman Boggs. Adelaide moved to Shreveport as a young girl and except for thirteen years in Tulsa, OK, she lived most of her life here. She graduated from C.E. Byrd High School, and attended Centenary College, and graduated in voice and music from LSU in Baton Rouge.

Adelaide had a gift of organization and of encouragement. She always wanted to use those talents to help others and to reflect the love of Jesus Christ to all she met. She was extremely active in many diverse community organizations and served as President of most of them, including the Women's Department Club, Symphony Guild, Chi Omega Alumnae, Authors Club, ERA Club, Southern Literary Society, PTA's at South Highlands, Broadmoor, and Byrd, Quid Nunc, the DAR, Cotillion Club, Demoiselle Club, and the Rescue Mission Board. She was named Sustainer of the Year of the Junior League of Shreveport in 1976.

In her early years, she was active at First Presbyterian Church where her father had served as choir director, teaching K-5 Sunday School, serving as a deacon and President of the Women of the Church. She was awarded a life-time membership in the WOC. In her later years, she became an active member of Broadmoor Baptist where she helped in the pre-school Sunday School and choir, the prayer ministry, and as President of the WMU.

She is best known as the Director of Volunteers at LSU Health Science Center, where for almost 23 years she organized and ran a service of over 300 volunteers who gave "Extra Tender Loving Care" to thousands of patients.

Adelaide was a gracious hostess, a devoted friend, a loving mother and grandmother, and a committed follower of her Lord. Until her long illness, she radiated warmth and enthusiasm as she always tried to do her very best and as she encouraged others to do the same.

She is survived by her son, Robert Boggs Creamer and his wife Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky of Chicago, IL: her daughter Nancy Creamer Nix and her husband Collins of Shreveport, LA: her grandchildren Merrill Nix McCarthy and her husband Mark of Asheville, NC, Melissa Nix, and Ryan Nix, both of Shreveport, LA, Michelle Nix of Dallas, TX, and Lauren Creamer McLaughlin and her husband Michael of New York, NY. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren, Ian Schakowsky and Mary Schakowsky Hart and her husband Dan, all of Chicago, IL, and four step-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2007 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Marshall Street from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A private graveside burial will be held at Forest Park. Dr. Tom Harrison will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Charles Beard, Justice Jeff Victory, David Werntz, John Anderson, Bob Marak, and Ryan Nix.

The family would like to thank Dr. Seborn Woods, Dr. Richard Zweig, and the staff at the Glen for the wonderful care they gave over the years. Memorials can be made to the building fund or missions fund of Broadmoor Baptist Church or to the Shreveport Rescue Mission.
