Joseph Ephraim "J.E." Bogar, 84, of Narrows Branch, Ky. went to be with our Lord, Monday night, April 30, 2012, at the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.
J. E. was born at Narrows Branch, Nov. 8, 1927, the son of the late Ermil and Elsie Hatfield Bogar.
J. E. was a retired heavy equipment operator, a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, a member of Belfry Chapter #141 DAV, and a member and deacon of the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, L. D. Bogar, John Bogar and Tommy Bogar; three sisters, Magdalene (Elmer) Stacy, Ressie (Jack) Strange and Myrtie Bogar; and one brother-in-law, Glenn Brookhart.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Birdie Mae Bogar; seven children, Darryl Bogar (Brenda) of Hardy, Elsie Ann Slater (Bert) of Lake Wells, Fla., Roy Bogar (Brenda) of Grethel, Nedria Stephenson (Paul) of Huntington, W.Va., Roger Bogar (Mae), Tom Bogar and Walter Bogar (Debbie), all of Narrows Branch; two brothers, Roy Lee Bogar (Lois) of Millard and Ermil "Sonny" Bogar (Ruby) of Taylorsville; two sisters, Gladys Brookhart of Lexington and Ollie Caines of Brooksville, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Jean Bogar of Mt. Sterling; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; special friends, Jerry and Carol Farley; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 4, in the Bluesprings Freewill Baptist Church with Emery Varney and Larry Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow in the Bogar Cemetery, Narrows Branch, with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Arrangements are under direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday, in the funeral home chapel, and after 4 p.m. Thursday, at the church. Special services will be held nightly at 7.
Belfry Chapter #141 DAV will conduct military graveside services.
