PHOENIX, Ariz. Gary D. Boettcher, 71, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, in Phoenix, Ariz.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, in Lindsay, with the Rev. Jim Novotny officiating. Interment will be in the St. Bernard Cemetery, in rural Lindsay, with military honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. vigil, continuing 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, all at the church.

Gary D. Boettcher was born May 12, 1940, in Madison, to Waldemar B. and Almyra J. (Reeves) Boettcher. He graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1957 and served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam from 1958-61. On Oct. 27, 1962, Gary was united in marriage to Kathleen A. Stenger at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lindsay. The couple lived in Omaha where he worked at Armour & Company. In 1964, they moved to southern California, where he worked for Hunts Food. In 1967, they moved to the San Jose, Calif., area where he worked for Westinghouse and Ampex Corp. in 1986, Gary was transferred to Colorado Springs, where he continued to work for Ampex for 6 more years. He then went to work for MCI until retiring in 2000.

Following his retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling the U.S. in their RV. The highlight of their travels was the summer they spent in Alaska. Gary was a member of the Knights Of Columbus in California and the Hartman Post #84 American Legion in Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, NASCAR, Husker football and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen A. Boettcher, of Casa Grande, Ariz.; daughter, Lisa (Troy) Larson, of Pierre, S.D.; daughter, Lori (Dan) Halsey, of Napa, Calif.; son, Gary (Danielle) Boettcher, Jr., of Castle Rock, Colo.; son, Matthew (Kristi) Boettcher, of Nebraska City; sister, Judy (Don) Rullo, of Columbus; brother, Larry (Nana) Boettcher, of Camarillo, Calif.; brother, Harold (Cheryl) Boettcher, of Omaha; sister, Jane (Blake) Morgan, of Elyria, Ohio; sister, Debbie Kime, of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; brother, Robert (Jean) Boettcher, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister, Donna Boettcher of Omaha; sister, Marcia (Doug) Adams, of Bellevue; grandchildren, Zackary, Joshua and Jacob Larson, Sarah, Erin, Adam and Clare Halsey, Dylan and Lucas Boettcher, Sienna Boettcher; aunt, Rachel Pearson of Columbus; aunt, Louise Stewart, of Norfolk; aunt, Elinor Boettcher, of Newman Grove; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Waldemar B. Boettcher; mother, Almyra J. Boettcher; paternal grandparents, Ernst and Marie Boettcher; maternal grandparents, Edward and Mary Reeves; infant brother, Herbert Boettcher; and infant twin sisters, Charlotte and Charlene Boettcher.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Habitat For Humanity, Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014 or family choice.
