Annastine Elizabeth Bodkin, 9, of Verona, died Wednesday, July 08, 2009.
She was born May 21, 2000 in Fishersville, daughter of Mark Bodkin and Anjey Bodkin.
Annastine was a third grader at Verona Elementary School. She was an avid reader and received perfect scores on the Language Arts and Social Studies portions of her SOLs, and only missed one question each in the categories of Math and Science. She had just recently tested gifted and talented in Language Arts AND mathematics, and had a natural curiosity for learning. She participated in the VCA (Verona Community Association) throughout the year in cheerleading, basketball, softball and was an AYSO participant in soccer as well. She was active in the girl scouts, rising from Brownies to Junior Scouts this year with Troop 331, also in Verona.
She participated in Wednesday night church activities throughout the year at Verona United Methodist Church, and regularly attended Sunday School at Fishersville Baptist Church in Fishersville VA, or First Baptist Church in Brandywine West Virginia, depending on where she spent her weekends, and spent time collecting shoebox items for charitable donations at Christmas.
She had a love of theatre arts, and received certificates in the school sponsored Forensics exhibitions in the area of poetry. She loved animals, particularly bunnies, and she helped take great care of her family's two cats. She also loved visual arts and crafts and would spend hours drawing, coloring and creating. Her favorite color was pink. She had just started taking sewing classes, and was very excited about that.
She was able to donate her corneas and heart valves to assist other people. Her family mentions this because when asked, they knew that's the choice she would have made for herself.
Left to cherish her memories are her parents, Anjey Rodgers Bodkin and Mark Bodkin of Verona; her brother, Morguean, her sister, Rhiannon, her paternal grandparents, Billy and Lucy Bodkin of Brandywine, WV; her maternal grandparents, Thomas and Delores Rodgers of Waynesboro; her great-grandparents, Charlie and Susie Johnson of Fishersville; her aunt and uncle, Michelle and Bob Conley of Waynesboro; and her cousins, Mitch Conley and Andrew Conley.
The family received friends at McDow Funeral Home.
Annastine was buried July 14th 2009 at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine, WV.
Memorial contributions may be made in Annastine's name to Verona Elementary School, or to a charity of one's choice.
