Wilma Jean Alderfer, Feb. 2, 1924-Dec. 7, 2008, Wilma Jean Alderfer, 84, of 8841 18th Road, Argos, died at 1:53 p.m. Sunday at Hickory Creek of Rochester following a lengthy illness. Born in Walnut, the daughter of Lawrence and Mary (Biddinger) Bodey, she lived her whole life in the Argos community. She graduated with the Class of 1942 from Argos High School. She was the salutatorian and had perfect attendance all 12 years of school. On Nov. 11, 1945, she married Weldon C. Alderfer at the Walnut Gospel Church of Walnut. She retired as manager of the Indiana Department of Transportation Plymouth sub-district, where she worked from 1961 to 1987. A precinct committeewoman for many years, she also served as Walnut Township Trustee for two terms. She was involved with child evangelism with Betty Murdick and taught Sunday School classes for many years. She was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Rochester. She and her husband also helped with local foster children. Survivors include her husband, Weldon C. Alderfer, Argos; a son, Roger L. Alderfer and wife Elaine, Greenfield; a daughter, Gloria Smith and husband Kenneth, Argos; a step-granddaughter, Suzette Bergstedt and husband Douglas, Logansport; four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Ellen Trump and husband Allen, Argos. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Francis Lowe. Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos. Her funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Don English and Rev. Wayne Speicher officiating. Burial will be at Richland Center Cemetery at Richland Center.
