Rev. Dr. Erwin H. Bode was a 1929 graduate of Eden Seminary. He served congregations of St. John's in Madeline Island, Wisconsin and Faith Evangelical Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota before moving to St. Louis, MO. He was pastor at St. Paul United Church of Christ in south St. Louis from 1946 until his retirement in 1983. He served on the Deaconess Hospital board for several years, and on the board at Good Samaritan Home for 25 years. He was chairman of the Good Samaritan Foundation until his death. He also was elected six times as a delegate to the United Church of Christ general synod.
Dr. Bode was the son of J. Gottfried Bode and Emilie Hoefer Bode, husband of Ella Bockholdt Bode, and father of Erwin Bode, Jr. He was the brother of Adele W. Bode, Paul J. Bode, Clara Bode Ruhl, and Helen Bode Ruhl.
