William H. Boatman, 81, of McAlester, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at McAlester Regional Health Center. Born Sept. 21, 1926, in Spiro, to Henry Lonzo and Nannie Townzen Boatman, he grew up and attended schools in the Crowder and Blocker areas. He joined the United States Navy when he was 16 years old and served during World War II and the Korean conflict. He married Brittie Wininger on June 6, 1946, in McAlester. He was trained as a heavy equipment operator in the service and worked for the United States Ammunition Depot and then for the Department of Corrections as a maintenance man. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crowder. Survivors include his wife, Brittie (Wininger) Boatman, of the home; a daughter, Eva Darlene (Boatman) Bower, of McAlester; two granddaughter and spouses, Robert (Bower) and Billy Lindersmith, of Nowata, Rikki (Bower) and Sam Knight, of Summerfield; four great-grandchildren, Aaron Bower, of Bartlesville, Andrew Lindersmith, of Bartlesville, Jewellia Hanson, of Summerfield, Sammy Knight, of Summerfield. And, two sisters, Betty Hampton, of Conway, Ark., Virgie, of California; a brother, Jack Boatman, of Arizona; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Barbara and J.C. Vaught, of McAlester, Norma Benson, of McAlester, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Sam Boatman; an infant brother, Leroy Boatman, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman (Dutch) and Foy Wininger. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Crowder Cemetery Pavilion with the Rev. Rodney Briggs officiating. Burial will be at Crowder Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Robert B. Thomas Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1098. Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Pallbearers include Sam Knight, Billy Lindersmith, Aaron Bower, Andrew Lindersmith, Carl Preston White and Gary Smith. Honorary pallbearers include J.C. Vaught, Harold Cloer, Jim Creager and Kermit Rhodes.
