Robert Eugene Boal, 85, of Susquehanna Twp., passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 in Community General Osteopathic Hospital.
He was born October 5, 1923 in State College, PA, to the late Earl Edward, Sr. and Nellie Elnora Adams Boal.
He was a graduate of State College High School, Temple University College of Engineering, USAF Communication Schools and Dale Carnegie School of Public Speaking, and attended The Pennsylvania State University. He was an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II, and a U.S.Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Bob retired on March 1, 1986 from PP&L, where he was a Residential Marketing Consultant from 1952-1986. He was a former member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Penbrook and currently a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Harrisburg, a member of Harrisburg Lodge #629 F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory, Capital Area Scottish Rite Club, Zembo Shrine, Zembo Legion of Honor, Zembo Luncheon Club, Hershey Shrine Club, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Harrisburg Forest #43, Estrellita Chapter #512 Order of Eastern Star, White Shrine of Jerusalem Bethany Shrine #7, Order of the Amaranth Willard-Waterman Court #54, Past President Temple Univ. Alumni Club, Penn State Nittany Lion Club, VFW Post #1718, American Legion Post #998, B.P.O.E. Lodge #12, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #382, Hershey Italian Lodge, Progress Fire Company, Susquehanna Twp. EMS, Susquehanna Golden Age Club, Hershey AARP Chapter #3466, PP&L Live Wire Club, Harrisburg Hunter's & Anglers' Association, Capital Area Sports Hall of Fame and a Life member of the Penn State Alumni Assoc. He was a former member of the Susquehanna Twp. Civil Service Commission, Susquehanna Twp. Lions Club, Susquehanna Twp. Shade Tree Commission, Susquehanna Twp. Electrical Advisory Commission, Past President of Susquehanna Twp. Lions Club, Past President Susquehanna Twp. P.T.A., Past President of Green Acres Civic Association, YMCA Board of Managers-Suburban East Shore Branch, Capital Region Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Harrisburg Toastmasters, and Past Secretary of Home Builders Assoc. of Metro Harrisburg.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Jane (Miller) Boal; a daughter, Susan Jane Boal Shill and husband Frank R. Thorn of Harrisburg; a brother, Earl Edward Boal, Jr. of State College, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services at 3 p.m., on Sunday, January 4, 2009 in St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4200 Londonderry Road, with Rev. James E. Person officiating. Burial on Monday, at 1 p.m., in Shoop's Garden of Rest Cemetery, Harrisburg, with full military honors. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m., on Saturday, in the Hetrick Funeral Home, 3125 Walnut Street, Susquehanna Twp., with Masonic Services at 8 p.m., followed by OES services, White Shrine Services and Amaranth Services. An additional viewing will be from 2-3 p.m., on Sunday in the church prior to the funeral services.
