Clothilda Ann Bacon was born on November 21, 1857, to David Blundell of Louisiana and Rachel Smith of Tennessee. Clothilda was likely born in Lavaca County, Texas as well as her brother, Matthew, who was born in July of 1850. David, Clothilda's father, mustered into Company A of the 12th Texas Infantry on November 4, 1861, at the age of 34. Three months later, David would die in the war on February 15, 1862.
Clothilda grew up in Texas and married her first husband Jesse E. Bacon. Bacon was a Confederate veteran, who mustered into Company K of the 35th Arkansas Regiment, serving the full length of the war. Assumedly, Bacon passed away before 1889, for Clothilda married a second time, nullifying her pension approval. On August 24, 1890, Clothilda married John J. Neal in Kerr County, Texas. It states on her Confederate Woman's Home Application that Clothilda's husband is buried in Kerrville, Texas, but does not say whether this is Jesse Bacon or John Neal, and neither have been located in any cemetery in Kerrville to date.
Clothilda entered the Woman's Home on May 1, 1936, and died there a little over six-years later, on May 11, 1942, and was interred in the Texas State Cemetery on May 13, 1942. She was survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jessie McKinley, of Ranger, Texas, and a sister, Mrs. W.G. Lackey, of Brackettesville, Texas.
