Shirley Virginia Bloxton, 63, of the 8500 block of Tidewater Drive, a retired administrator and teacher, died Aug. 8, 1993, in her residence.
A native of Lynchburg, Va., she was a graduate of Longwood College and received her master's degree from the College of William and Mary. She had retired from the Norfolk public school system in 1992, where she had been employed since 1957. She had been chosen as Mayor for a Day, an honorary position, by a former mayor. She served as assistant principal at Booker T. Washington, Granby and Norview high schools and was the class sponsor for many of the classes at these schools. She was a past state president of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher's Society. She was a member of the Virginia Poetry Society and had published a volume of her works.
She is survived by several cousins.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. James McClung. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to the Scholarship Fund of the College of William and Mary.
