Ripley, MS -- Golon Calvin, "G.C." Blount, 86, died Tuesday Dec. 29, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was retired from Bell South with 36 years service. He was a member of Springdale Baptist Church in Ripley.
Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday Jan. 2 at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with Dr. Rex Yancey, James Blount and Billy Blount officiating. Graveside services were at 1:30 p.m. at Oxford Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lila Overstreet Blount of Ripley; two daughters, Wanda Dickerson of Ripley and Beverly Hall (Greg) of Pontotoc; two sons, James C. Blount (Pat) of Saltillo and Billy G. Blount (Mary) of Knoxville, TN; nine grand-children, Bradley Dickerson (Barbara) of Alexandria, VA, Elisa Dickerson of Franklin, TN, Kadie Hall (Michael) of Thrasher, Corey Blount of Saltillo, Ken Fortier (Libbi) of Whitehall, Mont., Brett Fortier of Anaconda, Mont., Jessie Hall of Pontotoc, and Michael Blount and Samuel Blount, both of Knoxville, TN; eight great-grandchildren, Anna Grace, Mackenzie, Addison Dickerson, Elisa Clair Young, Lila Katherine Hall, Alex Hall, John Fortier and Will Fortier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley and Elizabeth Billingsley Blount; a sister Marvell Bayzie; and three brothers Gaylon Blount, Gilmer Blount and A. C. Blount.
