BLOUGH Amy Kathryn (Shaffer), 94, Penn Avenue, Jenner Township, died June 27, 2011, at Bethlen Home, Ligonier. Born March 8, 1917, in Jenner Township, daughter of John Wesley and Emma Florence (Friedline) Shaffer. Preceded in death by parents; husband of 59 years, Robert Jacob, on Aug. 5, 1999; brother, Harry; sisters, Mary (Shaffer) Griffith and Maude (Shaffer) Thomas; and infant sister, Margaret Shaffer. Survived by children, Carolyn B., married to Leonard A. Duffy, Hinesburg, Vt.; Marilyn A. Blough, Huntington, Vt.; Robert J II, married to Mary T. Ilg, Jenner Township; and Kay F. Blough, married to Benjamin M. Weller, Huntington, N.Y.; grandchildren, R. Brennan Duffy, married to Brooke Begley; Cara E. Duffy, married to David Carreon; Andrea C. Blough, married to Jude Clapper; Margaret L. (Blough), married to Daniel Mountain; Stephanie K. (Blough), married to Zack Jerrold; Kathryn E. Weller; and Olivia S. Weller; and great-grandchildren, Teegan and Ronan Duffy; Jacob and Emma Carreon; Sage Clapper; and Eva Mountain. A graduate of the former Boswell High School, Class of 1934. She earned a degree in elementary education from Lock Haven State Teacher's College in 1936, and did post-degree work at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1963-1964. She taught at Hare School and several other one-room schoolhouses in Jenner Township from 1936-1945. After graduating from Lock Haven, she took time off to raise a family and returned to teaching in the 1960s, having worked at Conemaugh Township Area School District's Central Elementary School from 1961-1979. Member of Laurel Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jennerstown. Amy was active with the former St. James Lutheran Church, where she was choir director and taught Sunday school in a church built on land donated by her grandfather, Simon Shaffer. She participated in the 4-H Club Instructional programs. Past member of the Eastern Star. After retirement, she was an avid quilter and enjoyed painting ceramics. She and her husband traveled widely to attend CBI events around the country, sponsored by the World War II era China-Burma-India veterans group, and she helped plan and make costumes for the groups annual parade of nations. Viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Laurel Trinity Church, 7520 Somerset Pike, Pastor Susan M. Winger and Pastor Michael A. Dunlap, officiating. No viewing at the church. Interment, St. James Cemetery, Jenner Township, followed by a "wake at the lake." Memorials to the St. James Cemetery Association, 253 Greenbridge Road, Boswell, Pa. 15531, would be appreciated.
