DAVENPORT - Evelyn L. Bloomer, 84, of Davenport, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Trinity at Terrace Park, Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf. Services to celebrate Evelyn's life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 2nd at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice or to the Texas State Orphans Home Scholarship Fund, PO Box 2005, Athens, TX 75751-7005
Mrs. Bloomer was born in 1924 to James W. and Mattie Blevins in Waco, Texas. She graduated from Business School in Waco, and worked as a secretary for the U.S. military, first with the Army Air Base in Waco during World War II, then Randolph Field, San Antonio, Texas, and eventually with the contract office of Atomic Energy Commissions, Los Alamos, N.M. Upon her retirement in 1952, she married Richard J. Bloomer on August 9 in Aledo, Ill. She enjoyed her family, reading, working crossword puzzles, needlework and the competition of table games.
Survivors include her devoted family, husband, Richard; daughters, Barbara A. LeCompte of Chicago, and Karen S. Black of Bozeman, Mont.; sons, James R. Bloomer, William D. "Bill" Bloomer, and Keith B. (Debra) Bloomer, all of Davenport; grandchildren, Haylie (Tash) Wisemiller, Derek Black and Erica (Preet) Sethi; and a sister, Jimmie Lee Whitley of League City, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and four sisters.
