Enlisted, November 15, 1916, at Fort Totten, NY. He was assigned to Headquarters Troop, 1st NY Cavalry Regiment. He joined the 1st NY Cavalry at Camp McAllen, Texas, for Mexican border service. He returned to with his Troop to Brooklyn, NY and mustered out of border service, March 29, 1917.

World War 1, the 1st NY Cavalry reorganized for the World War, at Camp Wadsworth, SC, as the 104th & 105th Machine Gun Battalions, 27th Division. He was assigned to Company A, 104th Machine Gun Battalion. Company A was transferred, March 7 1918, and designated Company D, 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division.

After training at Camp Wadsworth, SC, the 105th Machine Gun Battalion deployed to Europe, May 18, 1918, from Newport News, VA, aboard the USS Calomares. He landed at St. Nazaire, France, May 30, 1918. He saw combat in both Belgium & France. Returning to the States, March 6, 1919, aboard the USS Leviathan, docking at Hoboken, NJ. He marched in the great " Welcome Home Parade " for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in New York City, March 25, 1919. He was discharged from the service, April 1, 1919, at Camp Upton, NY.

Enter the United States Military Academy, August 9, 1921, commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, Infantry, class of 1925 ( June 12, 1925 ).

World War 2, served in the post World War army in different positions, and changing his branch, June 17, 1925, to Field Artillery. He entered World War 2 as a Major, promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel. He served European Theater of Operations and awarded the Bronze Star. Retired from the Army Feb. 28, 1950.
