He graduated from St. Teresa's High School in 1954. After serving in the United States Army he went to work for the family business. He then became owner of Janitorial Supply, Inc. in 1981 until his retirement in 2011. A lifetime Hutchinson resident, he was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council #612 3rd and 4th degree.
On April 29, 1961, he married Norma J. Varney. She survives. Other survivors include: three daughters, Debbie Stewart and husband Montie, Tina Baker and husband Roger and Amy Bornholdt and husband Stu, all of Hutchinson; son, Greg Blick and fiancee Gemma Hoyle of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Sister Carmelita and Sister Noella, both of the Adorers of the Precious Blood of Christ in Wichita; two brothers, Maurus N. Blick of Topeka, and Tom E. Blick and wife Joyce of Hutchinson; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his favorite mother-in-law, Anna Varney. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sister Joan; and two brothers, John and Roy Blick.
Parish Rosary will be 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at the church with Father Ned Blick presiding. Burial, with military honors provided by Fort Riley Honor Guard, will be at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
