Daughter of Abraham Blessing and Eliza Wolf, sister to Anna Eliza Blessing "Winney".
After the death of her mother in Virginia, her family walked to Missouri.

"Mr. BASFORD was joined in matrimony, at Cassville, in 1839, with Miss Elizabeth Jane BLESSING, a native of what is now West Virginia, who in 1837 came to Grant county, Wis., with her father, her mother having died in her native Virginia. Soon after the discovery of gold in California, Mr. BLESSING joined the throng that wended its way toward that Territory, but did not live to return to Wisconsin. To Mr. and Mrs. BASFORD, were born several children, two of whom still survive, viz.: Martha J., Mrs. SCOTT; and Charles H., who is associated with his father in business under the firm style give above. Another daughter, Mrs. Addie E. BROWN, of Bloomington, Grant county, died six weeks after her marriage, and Caroline passed away after attaining to womanhood; Alice and Harry died in early childhood. The mother of this family was called to rest in 1890, at the age of sixty-eight years."

Mrs. Basford became a member of the Methodist church of Cassville when fourteen years of age. Some years after her marriage she transferred her membership to the Congregational church of Bloomington, which was the church of her husband's choice; and there her membership remained until transferred to the Church Triumphant. Her faith was a source of great comfort to her during her last hours and she said to her husband during her sickness that she was ready to go. She gave directions in regard to her funeral which were carefully complied with. In her every day life she was of a happy and cheerful disposition; she readily made friends and permanently retained them. Her sunny presence will be missed from the society of a large circle of friends."
