The Oklahoman, April 3, 2009:
Marjorie Sue Bleakley, 87, of Oklahoma City, passed away February 10, 2009. She was born March 6, 1921, in Chicago, Illinois to Ernest L. and Olive Goldie (Knox) Green. At the age of 2, she and her mom moved to live with her grandmother, Sara, who was in the run of 1889. Sue was a 1938 graduate of Central High School, and received her Masters degree in art from the University of Oklahoma in 1951. Sue was an illustrator for Consolidated Aircraft in Fort Worth, Texas.

She served in the women's branch of the Navy, the WAVES, during WWII from 1944-46. In 1948 Sue met Ernest Eugene Bleakley, and they were married December 18, 1948. Sue served in many capacities during her career including: Assistant Advertising Manager, Kerrs, Oklahoma City instructor at Oklahoma City University Teacher, Art Appreciation at Territorial College of Guam, Agana, Guam, Extension Division Teacher, Art Appreciation, Adult Education, Ann Arbor High School, Ann Arbor, Michigan Assistant Professor, Art Education, Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Michigan Teacher, Fairfax County School Board, Fairfax, Virginia Teacher, Board of Education, Prince George's County, Upper Marlboro.

Ernest and Sue moved back to Oklahoma City in 1966, and she taught art in the Putnam City School District. She was a member of the Association of Allied Arts and did post-graduate work at the University of Oklahoma during the 1970s. After taking botany classes at OU, she did a series of 150 paintings of Oklahoma wildflowers in hopes of getting them published. She was a past Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of Military Services American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ernest, and her sister Jane. She is survived by her sons, John R. Bleakley and Michael S. Bleakley five grandchildren, Brandon, Jennifer, Gabe, Eva, and Skye four great-grandchildren niece Diane, and nephew Dana. Sue was noted for her independent nature. A memorial service will be held at Crown Heights Christian Church at 9:00 on Monday, April 6, 2009.
