Belleville driver killed

Dennis [Denver] Blaylock, 52, of 1 S. Virginia Ave., Belleville, died today shortly after being pulled from this car in a two-car, head-on collision about 8:20 a.m. in the 4900 block of State Street, East St. Louis. Blaylock had been pinned in the car and an East St. Louis Rescue unit pried the car open, said Willie Pickens, the unit shift commander. Patrick Frey, 12, a passenger in the other car was taken to Cardinal Glennon Hospital, St. Louis, for treatment of head and arm injuries. His mother, Carolyn Gray, 28, of 1711 N. 26th St., East St. Louis, was treated and released at St. Mary's Hospital, East St. Louis. No police report was available on the accident. Blaylock and Mrs. Gray were the drivers.

Blaylock killed in car accident

EAST ST. LOUIS - Denver H. "Pete" Blaylock, 51, of 1 S. Virginia Ave., Belleville, was killed Monday in a traffic accident in East St. Louis. He was a salesman for M. B. Gintz Inc., a liquor distributing company in East St. Louis.

Authorities said cars driven by Blaylock and Carolyn Gray, 28, of 1711 N. 26th St., East St. Louis, collided at 8:20 a.m. in the 4900 block of State Street.

Mr. Blaylock died at 11:12 a.m. at St. Mary Hospital, East St. Louis. Mrs. Gray was treated and released at the same hospital. A passenger in the Gray car, Patrick Gray, 12, was taken to Cardinal Glennon Hospital, St. Louis. He suffered head and arm injuries.

Mr. Blaylock is survived by his widow, the former Sevilla Edwards, a son, Jerry Blaylock, Houston, Tex.; two brothers and two sisters, Richard and Emery Blaylock and Mrs. Ida Kloever, all of Decatur, Ill., and Mrs. Nita Donaldson, Fillmore, Ill.; and a grandson.

Mr. Blaylock was an Army veteran of World War II.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the George Renner and Sons Funeral Home, Belleville. Burial will be in Glendale cemetery at Fillmore, Ill. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. today.
