CHARLES EARL BLANTON - Services for Charles Earl Blanton, 87, of Whitewright who died October 30, 1999, at Whitewright Nursing Home were held Tuesday, November 2, at 2 p.m. in Earnheart Chapel in Whitewight with Rev. Van Lazaroff and Rev. Neale Oliver officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Whitewright. Pallbearers were Patrick McLocklin, Dr. Robert Cox, David Johnson, Will Cox, Dr. Steve Sullivan and Murry Bryant. Honorary Pallbearers were Tom Sears, Cliff Emerson and Bob Cox. Family visitation was Monday evening, Nov. 1, at Earnheart Funeral Home. Earnheart Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Blanton was born May 30, 1912 in Whitewright, Texas, the son of Charles and Priscilla Blanton, the Grandson of Benjamin F. "Frank" Blanton and Julia Ann Blanton. He graduated from Whitewright High School and attended Texas Tech University and the University of Texas before serving his country during World War II in a tank division. In 1941 he married Al Eva McMillian in Greenville, Texas. After the war Mr. Blanton returned to Whitewright where he opened and operated Blanton Home and Auto Store for a number of years. He later sold this business and became an agent for Southland Life Insurance Co. until the time he retired. Mr. Blanton was a member of the first Baptist Church and a past president of the Whitewright rotary Club. He was a stong supporter of the Whitewright Tigers. He and the late Martha Nossaman organized the first Whitewright Pigskin Club, and for a number of years he was the announcer for the Whitewright Tiger football games. After their retirement, Earl and his wife did extensive traveling in both the United States and abroad.
Survivors are his wife of 58 years, Al Eva Blanton and one daughter Becky Blanton Young, both of Whitewright.
