Arrived in Fannin County, Texas on December 9, 1856.

Married Sarah Lucretia Boone on December 3, 1861 in Randolph, Fannin County, Texas.

1862 enlisted in the Confederate States Army as a Private in Company C, Hardeman's Regiment, Texas Cavalry (31st Cavalry) (1st Regiment, Arizona Brigade)

Benjamin was captured by the Union forces and remained a prisoner until the end of the war. He returned home with a lame hand as a reminder of his service.

With his bible packed in a saddlebag he traveled from home to home, church to church, preaching. In 1872 he was licensed to preach and established a church to be known as Blanton's Chapel located near Leonard, Fannin County, Texas, where he was the pastor for 18 years.
