Ruth Benson, 69, of Ozark, MO, went to be with her Lord on July 14, 2005. She died peacefully at home, after a very short battle with Renal Cell Carcinoma. She was the beloved wife of William "Bill" Gilbert Benson. Born in Poplar, MT, the daughter of Mark and Rose Blankenship, Ruth spent her happy childhood days at her family home south of Wolf Point, near the Missouri River. She attended the local elementary school system and graduated from the Wolf Point High School. While attending the North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, MN, Ruth met the man of her life, William Benson, a native of Missouri. They were married on August 3, 1957, and would have celebrated 48 years of marriage this year. Two children were born into this family, Brian of Kansas City, MO, and Debbie (Benson) O'Reilly of Nixa, MO. Ruth was a fun-loving, light-hearted lady with a unique sense of humor. She enjoyed jogging and hiking with Bill, canoeing and float trips. Her recreational highlight was hiking into the Grand Canyon. She played tennis with Bill (an avid tennis player), enjoyed reading, gardening, and cooking. She was active in church work, and enjoyed volunteer work at Teen Challenge while living in Springfield and Ozark. Ruth worked for the General Electric Company and later for the Gospel Publishing House.
Surviving family: husband, Bill G. Benson; son, Brian Benson and wife, Lisa; daughter, Debbie and husband, Patrick O'Reilly; sister, Gwen Spencer; brother, Philip Blankenship and wife, Marlene; sister, Marilyn, and husband, Don Droke; three grandchildren; one greatgrandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her father, Mark Blankenship; mother, Rose (Seed) Blankenship; sister, Esther Blankenship; and brother, Mark Blankenship.
Visitation will be July 18, 2005, in Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Funeral services will follow with burial in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, MO.
