Rita Blankenship McGlothlin, 64, of Moneta, Virginia, went to her heavenly home on October 20, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Otey and Hazel Blankenship. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Joseph Blankenship. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, James (Jim) McGlothlin; daughter, Melissa Hearn and husband, James; son, James Matthew McGlothlin and wife, Heather; Grandchildren, Devin Taylor, Alex Hearn, Bailey Hearn, Cody McGlothlin; great grandchild, Oliver Taylor; two sisters, JoAnn Linton, Debbie Sapp and husband, James; brothers, Ricky Blankenship, Jesse Blankenship, Sonny Blankenship and wife, Teri; many nieces and nephews. Rita was retired from Verizon with 34 years of service. She was a member of Bonsack United Methodist Church and Life Happens Sunday School Class. Rita and Jim took many cruises and vacations and loved to visit new places "as long as they did it together", She was well known fo r her cooking, especially "desserts" and cooked for many people who loved her "new recipes". She loved her God, her husband, children and grandchildren with all her heart and soul. Her beautiful smile, her laugh and caring for all God's creatures will be sorely missed. Thanks to all her many friends who called, visited and sent numerous cards. They all helped her and Jim during this difficult time. Thanks to all her care givers especially Drs. Jones, Dr. Inhorn, Dr. Boyd and all the nurses, staff and others who gave her compassionate care during this illness. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Bonsack United Methodist Church with Pastors Tim Tate and Mike Miller officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from noon to 1:00 pm.
