Alan D. Blaney, age 47 of Big Flats, NY passed away on Monday, July 7, 2008.

Alan was born July 12, 1960 in Sayre , PA. He was a graduate of Southside High School Class of 1978. Alan was a Veteran serving his country with The U.S. Air Force from 1978 – 1982.

Alan married his wife, Maureen A. McDonald Blaney, on October 9, 1982 and they would have celebrated their 26th Wedding Anniversary this year . He was a graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Alan was employed as a Registered Nurse at Southport Correctional Facility in Elmira, NY and was previously employed by Founder's Pavilion in Corning, NY.

He was pre-deceased by his grandparents, his mother-in-law Alice McDonald, and his father-in-law Ewan McDonald.

Alan was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. His daughters Emily and Claire were the Center of His Universe" and his Pride and Joy. He loved being a husband and father as his family was his life. His home was his castle and he loved nothing more than spending time there, entertaining family and friends or alone, working on home improvement projects, playing guitar and the piano, tinkering with computers, tending to his garden or working in his yard. Alan was an excellent nurse who always strived to do his very best. Alan was an avid golfer who will be remembered for his sense of humor, his creativity and desire to leave the world a little better than the way he found it. And he certainly did that without question. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him and were touched by his life.

Alan is survived by his loving devoted wife of over 25 years Maureen A. Blaney; his daughters Emily M. Blaney and Claire T. Blaney both at home; sisters and brothers-in–law: Laura Kaul of Elmira , NY, Kim & Greg Wheeler of Pine City, NY, and Cindy & Mike Abruzzese of Syracuse, NY; parents: Esther & Wayne McIlwain of Wellsburg, NY and Harold Blaney of Canton, PA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Mike & Maureen McDonald of Roseville, MN, Sharon & Paul Holden of Mound, MN, and Mary & Paul Bowerman of Comb, England; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends including a special uncle and aunt David & Linda Morse of Williamsport, PA and his close and loving friends Shawn, Alec, Nikki Kerbein, Jim Kaul, Brian Grose, and his feline friends Bubba and Teeny.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Lynch Funeral Home 318 West Broad Street Horseheads, NY on Friday July 11, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Alan's Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday July 12, 2008 at 12 PM. The Rev Robert C. MacNamara will officiate. Full Military Honors will be accorded to Alan at Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, NY following his services.

The family is graciously declining floral tributes and those wishing may remember Alan through memorial contributions to an Educational Scholarship Fund for his daughters c/o The Corning Federal Credit Union Miner's Plaza 84Canal Street Big Flats, NY 14814.
