He was born in Sonora, Ky., on Nov. 19, 1921, the son of John D. and Eliza Avery Bland.
Mr. Bland owned Bland Optical for 50 years before retiring in 1983. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Roy served in the U.S. Marines ("Semper Fi") as a staff sergeant in the Pacific during World War II.
He is survived by a niece, Rebecca (husband, Dan) Tonietti of Glendale, Ky.; nephew, Hugh H. (wife, Kim) Bland of Glendale, Ky.; and friend and caregiver, William Calas of Chatham.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen St., where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, with the Rev. Dr. Clifford Hayes officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
