E. Maude Blanchfield, 78, died Tuesday at a local hospital following a long illness.
She was born in Bar Harbor, Maine on November 18, 1888, the daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret Dwyer Blanchfield. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, a charter member of St. Sylvia Circle, and Daughters of Isabella in which she was first regent.
She received her early education at the Convent of The Notre Dame de Sion at Lewiston, Maine and was a graduate of Loretta Academy in Guelth, Ontario, Canada. She also was a graduate of Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York.
She served as head dietician at a convalescent home for infants at Sea Cliff, Long Island, New York for many years. Miss Blanchfield was also employed in the manager's office of Carlton House Corporation until its demolition in 1951, after which she returned to her family home in Bar Harbor.
Surviving are four sisters, one niece and two nephews.
Funeral mass will be said at 9 a.m Friday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Rev. John Kenny officiating. Burial will be in Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at McFarland Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday.
