Bessie Ellen Blanchard, 82, of Nampa, died on Monday, Dec. 23, 1991, at the Nampa hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at the Sunny Ridge Manor, 2609 Sunnybrook Drive, Nampa. Bishop Ron Woolstenhulme of the Nampa 8th Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate with chapel rites by the Nampa Chapter #30, Order of Eastern Star. Burial will follow in the Kohlerlawn Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
Bessie Elle Blanchard was born on Oct. 31, 1909, at Marysville, Idaho, to Richard Y. and M. Sophia Smith Kirkham. In 1918 the family moved to Nampa. She married C. Lester Blanchard on Dec. 3, 1926, at Nampa. They were married for 58 years, sharing a love of music and nature. Lester preceded her in death in October 1984. For 25 years she was manager and buyer for the children's department of the Idaho Department Store. Bessie was active in the LDS Church choir and served as Sunday school secretary for 22 years. She was an active member of the Nampa Chapter #30, Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, reading and bridge and took pleasure in friends from all walks of life.
Bessie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William E. and Char Blanchard, Salt Lake City, Utah; her daughter, Patricia Russell, Belvedere, CA; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters; and 2 brothers.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother and 2 sisters.
