In 1860, "Jere" (Jeremiah Blanchard), joined the Confederate Army, and participated in forty-seven battles. He was wounded twice. Most of Jere's military duty was done under command of General Robert E. Lee and Jere attained the rank of First Lieutenant. His name is on the Confederate Monument in Thomson, Georgia, as being part of the 10th Regiment Georgia Volunteers, Confederate States of America.
