Phillip Ray Blalock, age 69, of Steens, MS, passed away May 30, 2012, at Mississippi State Hospital in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be Sunday, June 3, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Rev. Grant Mitchell officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Piney Grove Cemetery in Steens, MS. Visitation will be Sunday, June 3, 2012, one hour prior to the service at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home.

Mr. Blalock was born November 23, 1942, in Lowndes County, MS, to the late Ocie Thaxter and Mozelle Branyon Blalock. He was a graduate of New Hope High School and resided in Steens, MS, Washington, DC, Caledonia, MS, and Jackson, MS. He was employed by the Census Bureau and DC Government in Washington, DC, and was a Baptist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James E. Blalock.

Survivors include sisters, Linda B. Althen of Starkville, MS, E. Jane Strong of Steens, MS, and Erma B. Miller of Suitland, MD, sister-in-law, Anna Faye Blalock of Columbus, MS, brothers, O. T. Blalock and his wife Willie of Lewes Deleware, Fred Blalock and his wife Penney of Salisbury, MD, and Virgel H. Blalock and his wife Mary Grace of Columbus, MS, nine nieces and grand nieces, four nephews and fifteen grand nephews. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
