Leonard J. Blake, 89, of Genoa City, died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Lakeview Specialty Hospital in Waterford, Wis.
He was born Nov. 17, 1921, in McHenry, to Joseph and Eva (Degen) Blake.
On Aug. 16, 1947, he married Dolores Peisert at St. Mary Catholic Church in McHenry.
A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served during World War II and had been a charter member of the McHenry VFW.
He had been employed as a carpenter with Tonyan Construction for 50 years and belonged to Carpenters Union No. 2087.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of McHenry and belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Dolores Blake; his two children, Linda (Cliff) Hadick and Leonard (Sandra) Blake Jr.; 10 grandchildren, Christopher Hadick, Leigh (Tom) Fritts, Patricia Hadick, Timothy Hadick, Catherine (Christopher) Liesch, Michael Hadick, Therese Hadick, Jon Blake, Jeff Blake and Joe Blake; three great-grandchildren, Blake Hadick, Grace Hadick and Natalie Liesch; two sisters, Lucille (Orv) Sabatke and Berniece (Glenn) Peterson; and a sister-in-law, Grace Blake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Laura Miller and Mareta Serock; and two brothers, Harold and Richard Blake.
The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1401 N. Richmond Road, McHenry. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery in McHenry.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
