PROCTORSVILLE - Andrew Leslie Blaise Sr., 81, of Proctorsville, passed away on Jan. 22, 2013.
He was born to the late Ezeb and Ilene Blaise, Sept. 11, 1931, in Shoreham, Vt. Andy married Caryl Norton on July 28, 1951. They built a home together on Twenty Mile Stream Road in Proctorsville, Vt. He also built a machine shop on his property.
Andrew was a member of the Army, where he did a tour of duty in Korea. He was awarded a veterans' medal from Governor James H. Douglas for serving his country. When he returned from active duty, he worked for many local businesses which included Ralph Parker Sawmill, Kenwood Woolen Mills of Cavendish, Town of Cavendish Highway Department, Carl Rhodes in his garage, Uffords Roofing out of Bellows Falls. He worked for 15 years at the Gear Shaper in Springfield from which he retired. He also built wood splitters.
During his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and riding his motorcycles. He worked in his machine shop, fixing parts and building things for numerous businesses such as Okemo Ski Area, Bromley Mountain Resort, Dunnett Ski Shop, Jewel Brook Mills. He also fixed many things for local people in town that needed a machinist. He also belonged to many organizations such as Ballard Hobart Legion of Proctorsville, VFW of Ludlow, the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows.
Andrew is survived by his wife, Caryl of Proctorsville; two children, Rule Smith Blaise and Andrew Leslie Blaise Jr., both of Proctorsville; two grandchildren, April Elizabeth Pappas and husband David of Proctorsville and Eric Rule Blaise of Windsor, Vt.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St. James Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at the St. James Methodist Church on February 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at a later date.
