Doris Helms Blair went to be with her Lord on March 6, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer, with her loving family at her side. She was an inspiration to all.

Born on July 15, 1937, she was the daughter of Louise Hunnicutt Helms of Greenville and the late former Mayor Jesse L. Helms.

Mrs. Blair was a graduate of Greenville High School, past president of Greenville Country Club Ladies Golf Association, past president of Western Carolina Golf Association, former member of Rotary Civic Chorale, charter member of Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church, choir, and the Disciples Sunday School Class.

She loved golf, music and cooking for her family and friends.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her loving husband of 51 years, Jerry B. Blair; two daughters and sons-in-law, Katrina and Gary Nelson of Simpsonville, and Phyllis and Norman MacDonald of Greer; a son and daughter-in-law, Rusty and Linda Blair of Fort Mill; grandchildren, Kevin, Jon, and Kristen MacDonald, Jessica, Ashley, and Chris Blair, and Blair Eskew; a sister, Ann Eastland; and a brother, Jesse L. Helms Jr.

Memorials may be made in honor of Doris Helms Blair to Patients First for the Greenville Cancer Survivor Park, P.O. Box 10735, Greenville, SC 29603; or to the Cancer Charities Foundation, Attn. Kimberly Williams, 65 International Drive, Greenville, SC 29615.

Visitation will be held tonight, March 8, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 9, 2006, at 1:30 p.m., at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Randy Smith and the Rev. Andy Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
