MARRIED AT COURT HOUSE --Wedding Ceremony Performed in the County Clerk's Office

There was a wedding at the court house this morning when Harry M. Blaine and Miss Amelia D. Lang, a young couple of Hayes township, were united in marriage by Rev. Howes. The ceremony was performed in County Clerk Lang's office at noon. The young people will live on a farm in Hayes township. Miss Lang is a sister of F. E. Lang, county clerk, and Mr. Blaine is the son of Jesse Blaine of Hayes.


From Hutchinson News, 2/4/1942: Farmer Ends Own Life--Harry Blaine Often Threatened Action

Harry M. Blaine, about 54, long time resident of Hayes township, died at his farm home this morning an hour after he shot himself in the right temple with a 410 gauge shotgun.

Thomas Blaine, a son, told Sheriff Guy Aukerholz he had been away from the farmstead for a short time and had just returned when he heard a shot and found his father injured in the farmyard cave, a few feet south of the house.

Coroner H.M. Steward said it was a clear case of suicide. Members of the family said Blaine had talked of killing himself, because of ill health. Today he had planned to go to Texas to visit a daughter but said this morning that he was too sick to make the trip and would take his life instead, officers were told. Members of the family reasoned with him and thought he had been dissuaded.

Part of his head was blown off by the shotgun blast and he was not conscious after the shooting, which occurred at 9 a.m. The residence is 24 miles west and one mile south of Hutchinson.

Survivors include his widow, another son, Liland Blaine of Preston, and several daughters.

Funeral service for Harry Blaine, who died of gunshot wounds at his farm home in Hayes township, were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon in Huntsville church. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery.


Harry's headstone indicates that he was born in 1887, however, the census reports and his death notice consistantly indicate a birth year of 1889.
