Catherine, was the first school teacher in Seattle. Her husband, David, was the first resident Methodist minister in Seattle. The two of them arrived in Seattle in 1853. Family tradition says that their son, John Jefferson Blaine, was the first white boy born in Seattle. The family remained in Seattle, until they moved to Oregon in 1856. From Oregon they moved back to their home in Seneca Falls, NY. David was a pastor for a number of churches in New York and in Pennsylvania. Later they returned to Seattle, where they remained for the rest of their lives.
