Jennie Gertrude Chesney was born to E.J. and Eva Chesney on Feb. 14, 1890, near Fairbury, Neb. She died at Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior on Sunday, Oct. 8, at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 22 days.
When a girl she moved with her parents to a farm near the Olive Hill community in Jewell County, Kansas. On March 11, 1908, she was married to Herman Blackstone, who was engaged in farming in the same community. To this union three sons, Hollis, Harlan and Wayne, were born.
After retiring from farm work, Mr. and Mrs. Blackstone made their home in Superior. Mr. Blackstone preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1955. Her parents, two sisters and five brothers also preceded her in death.
She joined the Olive Hill Church when a young women. After moving to Superior, she transferred her membership to the Methodist Church. She was active in the women's groups as long as health permitted. Mrs. Blackstone was also a member of the Eastern Star, the Rebekah Lodge and the Liberty Club.
Survivors are her three sons, Hollis of Saratoga, Calif., Harlan of Pleasanton, Calif., and Wayne of Durango, Colo.; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Harry Larson, of New Plymouth, Idaho; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle Roe of Superior and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Mullet's Funeral Home with Mrs. Paul Blackstone officiating. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery.
