John M. Blacker, 91, of Monticello passed away at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.
He was born Sept. 12, 1918 in White Heath, the son of Park and Florence Mitchell Blacker. He married Jeanette C. Steele on April 7, 1949 in Rochelle. She passed away Aug. 26, 2007.
Surviving are a son, Stan (Brenda) Blacker of White Heath; a stepson, Terry (Yvonne) Cresap of Mountain Home, Arkansas; two stepdaughters, Sharon Hartsfield of White Heath and Marcia Cresap of Vista, California; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Stanley Blacker; a sister, Mary Bradbury; a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was assigned to the Americal Division 132nd Infantry deployed to the Guadalcanal Campaign. During the campaign he was wounded, receiving the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.
