In 1860, he was a laborer living with and/or working for farmer William Keller in North Newton Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 3" tall and had auburn hair and gray eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, January30, 1865, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg February 8 as a private with the 78th Pennsylvania Infantry in the second organization of Co. D, and discharged by surgeon's certificate per general order May 16, 1865.
He died in the soldier's home at Hampton, but no record of his enrollment there was located.
