Dora May Black Bailey, 79, died peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2009. She resided at 1616 East Sunnyside Avenue (850 South) in the Foothill neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah at the time of her death.
She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Dora was a gifted violinist; she learned to play the violin at a young age and was never again without beautiful music in her life. She played until very recently with the Wasatch Community Orchestra and the Bonneville Strings, to name just two of many. She will also be remembered as having a great love for ballroom dance, the arts, and travel.
Dora was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on July 31, 1929 to Archie Raymond Black and Florence May Simons Black.
She was a graduate of Granite High School and earned her Accounting degree at age 59 from LDS Business College.
Dora was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority her entire adult life, where she forged many close life-long friendships. Her family misses her, but are comforted knowing that she looked forward to joining those she loved who had passed before her.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Florence Black, husbands, Ronald J. Woolsey and William Henry Bailey, and her beloved daughter Veronica McCollum. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Miller (Scott), son, Paul Bailey (Dawn), 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, siblings, JoAn Clark (Allan, deceased), Florence Romney (Joe), Janet Holford, James Black (Carma), and Leonard Black (Susan).
A viewing will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, Utah, on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thirty minutes prior to the viewing, there will be a Broken Circle ceremony held by members of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., also at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary.
Following the Funeral Services, Dora will be buried next to her husband, Bill, at the Mountain View Memorial Estates Cemetery.
