Our Beloved Thelma May Black Alvord waltzed back to her family in Heaven on December 10, 2008 at the Highland Care Center in Holladay, UT after facing off diabetes for nearly 50 years.
She was born November 23, 1917, the daughter of Lorenzo D. Black and Jane Mae Ellison in Howe, Idaho.
In 1933, she married Max L. Slaughter in Ogden, Utah, with whom she had four children. In 1956, Thelma married Shirl T. Alvord, the love of her life. After raising her family, she worked at Mother's Favorite Cookies and retired from Cream of Weber Dairy. Always living her life as it came, Thelma expected waltzing and Wendover sprinkled with tribulation. She looked forward to exercising with her condo friends and chit-chat and tea with nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughter Darlene Blotter Applegate (Bert) of Scenic, Az and four sons Raymond J. Slaughter (Doris) and Darwin L. Slaughter (Beverly) SLC, Ut, Jerry Alvord (Carol) of Tx, and Craig Alvord of Ogden. Also surviving are two sisters: LaReta Gillman (Sam Neslen), Grace B. Mc Neil and one brother Donald R. Black (Nadine) of Salt Lake City; five nieces and five nephews. Everyone she knew felt she loved and cherished them. Thelma was preceded in death by three brothers: Lawrence L. Black, George A Black, and Kenneth D. Black plus one son Ben Alvord and one daughter Marie Beth Slaughter.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 15, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and also one hour prior to the services on Monday at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary.
Interment will be held at Leavitt's Aultorest Memorial Park.
