ROCKTON - Irma C. Betts, 80, of Rockton, Ill., died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1997, at home.
She was born June 12, 1917 to William and Blanche (Webber) Black in Rockton. She married Diamond J. Betts on May 28, 1938 in Clinton, Iowa.
When her daughters were of school age, Mrs. Betts was very active in the PTA and other extracuricular activities of Stephen Mack Grade School. She worked for many years for several large Rockford department stores. In her middle years, she tool up trap shooting and won many trophies. She enjoyed the outdoors working in her yard and tending her flowers. She was a member of the Old Stone Church. Goldenaires Senior Chorus, Pecatonica Women's Garden Club, and loved her baseball.
She is survived by two daughters, Deanna Diamond of Carol Stream, Ill., and Judith (Doug) Wirth of Byron, Ill.; a sister, Hattie (Charles) Cooper; five grandchildren, Anthony Swenson, of Colorado, Elizabeth (Michael) Cousineau of Carol Stream, Georgina (Wesley) Beauchem of Chana, Ill., Desa Richards and Carol Richards, both of Byron, Ill.; two great grandchildren. She is further survived many nieces and nephews. She was preceded on death by her husband, two sisters, Mabel Harnish and Emma Peucher [Peucker]; three brothers, Raymond, Fred, and Howard Black.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 1997 at the Bifulk Funeral Home in Rockton, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., with the Rev. Rodney Johnson, pastor of Old Stone Church officiating. Burial will be in the Rockton Cemetery. Friends may visit on Sunday, Dec. 21 at the Bifulk Funeral Home from 4 to 5 p.m.
