Verlena M. Black, 92, formerly of Broadway Avenue Extension, Parkersburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 14, 2008. She was a patient at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg.
She was born Jan. 26, 1916, at Hackers Valley, W.Va., a daughter of the late Lawrence W. and Gertrude Bosley Loudin. Verlena was a long time member of Calvary Memorial Church and was a retired cook with the Wood County Board of Education and had years ago been employed with the B.F. Goodrich Company in Akron, Ohio.
She was a member of the Wood County Senior Citizens, was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing dominoes and card games.
Surviving are five sons, Thomas (Tom) Black and his wife, Kathy, of Parkersburg, Robert (Bob) Black and his wife, Deloris, of Parkersburg, Howard Black and his wife,
Tawanda, of Mineral Wells, Jack Bush and his wife, Mary, of Wasilla, Alaska, and Donald Bush and his wife, Sharon, in Colorado; two daughters, Carol S. Lynch and her husband, Ronald, of Mineral Wells and Donna Jean "Jennie" Johnston of Denver, Colo.; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Loudin of Denver, Colo.;
and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Black; and three brothers, Loren Loudin, Derius Loudin and Dana Loudin.
The funeral service will be 9 a.m. Saturday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg, with Pastor Rob Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Following the committal service at the cemetery, the family will return to the funeral home for a meal and time of fellowship at Oma's Rose Reception Room in the funeral
