ALVIN RAY BLACK, a native Houstonian was born June 8, 1914, passed away December 22, 2008. Alvin was a graduate of Jeff Davis High School. In November of 1963, he was promoted to Senior Industrial Engineer of Southern Pacific Railroad and after 35 years of service retired. Alvin will be remembered for his dedication to his family; his no-nonsense approach to life and his considerable talent as an artist. He will be greatly missed.
Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Marie, son, Alvin Van Black, and grandson, Zachary. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lansrud of Houston; grandchildren, Laurie and John Lansrud of Houston, Brian Lansrud-Lopez and his wife Laura of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Phyllis, Margot and Griffin Van Black; 9 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter.
Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 26, 2008, at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home. Mass of the Resurrection: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 27, 2008, St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church, 10330 Hillcroft St. Rite of Committal will follow at Hollywood Cemetery
