Virginia Judith Black Godfrey died peacefully at her home on May 15, 2011 surrounded by her family.

She was born February 3, 1925 to Clifton Lee Black and Nellie Leetham Black. She married Gordon B. Godfrey in the Salt Lake Temple in 1942 on her eighteenth birthday.

Highly intelligent, Virginia worked as an Escrow Officer for several Title companies. She once taught first year law students a section of Real Estate law at the University of Utah.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in most auxiliaries. She was proud of her membership in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

Virginia loved to serve others, mostly anonymously. Once a friend with Virginia, it was forever. She loved her friends and took an active interest in their lives. Her greatest joy was her family. Many beautiful quilts and pillow-cases have become treasured gifts, a beautiful reminder of her talent.

Through her long illness she remained loving and thoughtful. She did not complain and expressed love daily for those caring for her, especially to her beloved husband Gordon.

The family would like to thank Inspiration Hospice for their tender care.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Gordon B. Godfrey; her six children: Gordon Lee and LaRita, Linda and Bob Duffin, Connie and Mike Mascherino, David and Stacy, Richard Godrey, and Jim and Cherie. She leaves nineteen grandchildren (one deceased), and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. Two brothers survive her, Clilfton Black (Evan), and Thomas Black (Celeste). Her younger sister Coral Wood (Darrell) preceded her in death by two months.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011 in the Mount Olympus Twelfth Ward Chapel, 4176 South Adonis Drive (3950 East). Friends may call Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, and Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church.
Interment: Holladay Memorial Park.
