Billie Sue Bivins McConnell, 76, of Midland, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, October 13, 2010. As the gates of Heaven opened, she touched His nailed scarred hand and stepped into paradise. Billie was a member of the Midland community since 1951. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 18, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Church Midland, located at 5501 N. Midkiff Rd.
Billie was born on June 7, 1934 in Clarksville, Texas to Bill and Susie Belcher Bivins. On May 19, 1951, Billie married the love of her life, Clayton McConnell, in Texarkana, Arkansas.
Billie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was loved and admired by many dear friends and family members. She was employed for many years at Midland National Bank and First City Bank. Billie was a member of Phi Sigma Alpha and the Midland Women's Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and received a Golden Life Master Award from the ACBL on May 18, 2010. Billie was a devoted Christian and a founding member of Christ Church Midland.
Billie is survived by her loving husband, Clayton McConnell of Midland, her daughter Gail McConnell; her son, Jerry McConnell, and his wife, Delinda of Midland; her daughter Glenda McConnell Bettina and her husband John, of Midland; She was also survived by four grandchildren, Amanda Whitley Chappell, Kimberly McConnell Ingram, Kyle McConnell and Diana Whitley Brewer; four great grandchildren, Clay Chappell, Heaven Chappell, Colt Chappell and Kale Ingram. Other survivors included her siblings Johnnie Bivins Jones, Jimmie Bivins Stewart, Donald Ray Bivins and Nina Jo Bivins Holt. Billie will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made in Billie's name to Christ Church Midland, 5501 N. Midkiff Rd, Midland, TX 79705; Interim Hospice, 4610 N. Garfield St. Midland, TX 79705; or a charity of the donors choice.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff, nurses and caregivers of Allison Cancer Center, Interim Home Care, Interim Hospice and Comfort Keepers. Their tender care of our beloved "Honey" will never be forgotten.
