Birth: Sep. 24, 1834
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Aug. 28, 1888
Marshall County
Indiana, USA

Susan was the third wife of John S. Alleman. They married on Christmas Day in 1861 in Marshall County. The couple appeared together on the 1870 Census, zoned in Center Twp. in Plymouth, where John was earning a living as a grocer. The couple had welcomed three children--son Frank Bishop (b.1866), son Silas Niles (b.1867), and daughter Anna/Annetta M. (b. Jan 1870).

Two years after that census year, John and Susan welcomed daughter Amie G. on 13 Mar 1872. A year later, about September of 1873, Susan would have discovered she was a month pregnant. John must have felt as if he had finally eluded the bad luck that had plagued him early in his adult life. The bad luck came back with a vengeance. When Susan was seven months along with their fifth child, the grim reaper came for John on 7 Feb 1874. He was 53 years old. Susan gave birth to their daughter Jennie S. in April. Not only did Susan have to endure the loss of a husband, she had to bury 5-year-old daughter Amie three years later on 1 Jul 1877.

Elsewhere in Center Township, lived another family, that of Jacob Sult and Sarah Ann Ray, who had married circa 1857, and had had six children together--Armeda C. (1858-1890), William F. (1861-1943), Laura E. (b.1863), Eva Ada (b.1869), and Serena A. (b.1872). Jacob was a farmer. On 28 Sep 1878, Jacob lost Sarah, his wife of twenty one years.

Somehow, these two people, both grieving the loss of a spouse, managed to find one another. Susan Alleman married Jacob Sult on 30 Jul 1879 in Marshall County. Their blended family appeared together on the 1880 Census, living on Jacob's farm in Center Township. With them were Jacob's children William, aged 18, Laura, aged 17, Lewis, aged 14, Ada, aged 11, Serena, aged 8, and Susan's children Frank, aged 14, Silas, aged 13, Annetta, aged 10, and Jennie, aged 6.

Susan died on 28 Aug 1888 at age 54. Second husband Jacob Sult had her buried with first husban John Alleman and their daughter Amie.
