Imogene BISHOP

Imogene BISHOP, 70, of 2509 Buttonwillow Ave. died at 2 a.m. Monday at Hendrick Medical Center after a brief illness. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Southern Hills Church of Christ.

Minister Dan COKER will officiate, assisted by Mel HOLT. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St.

Born Feb. 28, 1913, in Collin County, she moved to McLean with her family when she was 9 years old. Her parents died when she was 10, leaving a family of eight children. They went to a children's home in Canadian, Tex., which was moved in 1924 to Tipton, Okla., and became known as the Tipton Home.

She married Cecil BISHOP June 25, 1932, in Norman, Okla., and the coupe worked at the Tipton Home for 2 1/2 years. They moved to Abilene from California in 1952, back to California in 1966 and returned to Abilene in 1978. She was administrative assistant of the Sunset Haven for the Elderly Care in Abilene and did volunteer work for the Christian Service Center. She was a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Ervin of Fort worth; a daughter, Necia Bishop COBB of Fort Worth; two sisters Artie RILEY of Ontario, Calif., and Madge ARCHIBALD of Norwalk, Calif.; three brothers, Ector WATSON of Stigler, Okla., Lawrency WATSON of McLean and George WATSON of San Antonio; and four grandchildren Cathryn ROSENQUIST of Oakland, Calif.; Cindy L. COBB of Dallas; and Lisa K. and Laura Lynn BISHOP, both of Fort Worth.

Pallbearers will be Vernon LEVERETT, Jack QUALLS, Hubert CONNALLY, Bob DRENNAN, Sam GORMAN and Liston BLANKS. Honorary pallbearer will be Robert CATHEY.

The family asks that remembrances be sent to the Tipton Home. The body will lie in state from noon Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
