Thelma was the daughter of Samuel J. Ward and Ora Virginia Groseclose Ward. She lived in Amarillo and was married to James L. Bishop, who - according to family legend - was killed at work in 1941. He was the foreman of a cotton gin in Texas. Thelma never remarried, and continued to live in Amarillo.
Thelma and James had two children, a son and a daughter, and named them both for themselves:
James L. Bishop, Jr. "Buddy"
Thelma, who married a Mr. Courtland, and settled in Port Lavaca TX.
